Psyched! (Hold on… how long could this happiness last?) Just noticed that ChatGTP.com launched a new addition to their search results. Maybe it’s not new, though I have never seen it do this without me asking it to do so. While doing some research for JeanSmellGood.com (if you need great, high quality perfumes, don’t miss out on their collections), I noticed that links had been added to results. While the link bubble themselves are incredibly small and might miss the eye of many, at least now the links are there.
What intrigued my mind however was if these links were going to be provided for every query I made to the platform. Since the first time I noticed this feature I had explicitly asked for links in the query, I wanted to see what would happen if I were to make a query without explicitly asking for links in an Incognito tab (maybe ChatGPT noticed I asked for links once so now it decided it would return links with every result from now on). I needed to see what would ChatGPT return if I didn’t explicitly ask for links in my results. Would it respect the sources of where it gathered its information and eloquently link to them? Or would it keep violating the grace of every author and contributor to a subject without haste?
Here are the results – This is me explicitly asking for links.

This is me in an incognito window without asking for links.

There you have it. A sea of disappointment hit me hard after seeing these prompt results. ChatGPT is still in violation of contributors’ and authors’ rights by blatantly ignoring the sources of where it gathers its information from.
